The legend of Annapoorani is one of the most profound in all of Shaiva tradition. When Lord Shiva declared that food and matter were mere illusions, Parvati withdrew from the world — and with her, all nourishment vanished. The universe starved. Shiva himself arrived at Kashi with a begging bowl, and Parvati, as Annapoorani, fed him with her own hands — proving that the material world, sustenance, and the act of nourishing are not illusions but sacred gifts.
